Bits and bobs; anatomy of my photo session

This post leans toward frivolous as its not a discussion piece or review of a product - please direct your attention to another of my blog posts if that’s what you are looking for! For those of you interested in the fantastic day I had putting the pictures together for this site, please read on.

photography style

It had been a number of years since I had my picture professionally taken. The last time was at my wedding (and in all of the nervous excitement I didn’t recall many details around getting my makeup done and such.) While I required pictures for the Skin + Health Co.™ website, I was also in need of a new/recent photo to use on LinkedIn and the like. In my mind, the Skin + Health Co.™ pictures required a slightly different ‘feel’ than those I typically used on LinkedIn for my environmental management and business change planning. A little bit more fun and relaxed type of idea.

My photographer had a helpful system or package that included ‘the works’; hair-styling at a salon near her studio, as well as a professional make-up artist that arrived on-site to work with clients. I really appreciated the fact I didn’t have to do anything other than pick out specific wardrobe items I wanted to use for the pictures.

What i wore

With it being winter in Canada, I kept leaning toward sweaters, scarves and long dresses or trousers, as pieces that said ‘keep warm’ constantly came to mind! Upon hearing that, a good friend gently reminded me not all coaches wear long sleeve tops, or turtlenecks and wool socks for that matter, and very kindly suggested I find an off the shoulder white or pale colored top to work with.

A piece I regularly reach for as part of my work attire was also suggested: a white button up dress shirt (mine is from Brooks Brothers.) Fortunately, once I started looking for pieces, they weren’t hard to track down, and I acquired a dress and couple of sweaters to tie it all together.

team effort

In truth, my mom was heavily involved in assisting me with this process along the way by providing input and wise advice that included “I like it best when I see you smiling, so make sure some of the pictures catch that!” Several others helped with their input, ideas, and advice; it was in all ways a team effort and I sincerely appreciate the assistance of everyone that was involved!
